Letter from ASNW’S Executive Director
Adaptive Sports Northwest Community,
After much consideration and in an effort to ensure the safety of our athletes, their families, coaches, staff and the public at large, Adaptive Sports Northwest (ASNW) is postponing all sports, recreation and events programming effective Thursday, March 12, and until further notice due to the COVID-19 virus. This postponement includes all practices, tournaments, social events, and drop-in activities. The decision to postpone programming was made in concert with multiple sources including federal and state recommendations, our coaches, athletes, staff and our Board of Directors. This decisions is not related to a known presumptive COVID-19 case within our ASNW community.
We did not make this decision lightly. As you probably know, the CDC, and the Oregon State Department of Health have specific concerns about the impact of the COVID-19 coronavirus on vulnerable populations. We have been seeing a high rate of cancellations and postponements with other sports and recreation related organizations, and have determined that those decisions were based on factors that are consistent with ASNW.
The health of our community is our top priority, and we feel this is the right decision to make at this time. While we appreciate the immense value of the services we provide for our community, we understand that there are more important considerations at this time.
It’s impossible to predict when we will be able to resume programming. The situation appears to be evolving hourly. ASNW will not make decisions unilaterally to resume programming. We look forward to re-starting our programs once we receive guidance from public health experts that it is safe to do so. Updates from ASNW will occur on our website at www.adaptivesportsnw.org and via our Facebook page.
While we hope that you will continue to find outlets to remain social and active during this time, we encourage you to consider the vulnerability of yourselves, and your loved ones, before deciding whether to participate in other non-ASNW group related activities.
If there are further questions, please contact Adaptive Sports Northwest at 503.241.0850 or email at email@example.com. Additionally, it is recommended that you continue to receive further safety instruction from the CDC at the following website: https://www.cdc.gov/
